CALL TO ACTION FOR THE ROHINGYA PEOPLE

The United Nations calls the Rohingya people of Myanmar "the most persecuted people on earth". Completely stripped of their rights in 1982 as a result of a military coup, the Rohingya have been marginalized ever since.

Between 2016 and 2017, a wave of brutal violence drove nearly 800,000 Rohingya out of Myanmar into Bangladesh, creating the biggest refugee crisis of our time and the most extensive genocide since Rwanda.

The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a resolution (394 to 1) declaring crimes committed by Myanmar's security forces constitute genoside, a distinction that carries legal ramifications. The State Department and the Senate have "steered clear" of such distinction, preventing a mandatory obligation to take action.
